Among the most frequently used types of abrasives, there are several common mistakes that can result in an unsafe environment.

Cutting wheels: Many operators don’t realize that the type of tool guard they should use differs depending on the type of cutting wheel being used. When using a Type 1 (or flat) cutting wheel, specifies that the guard should come over the top of the wheel covering 180 degrees of the abrasive wheel periphery and both sides of the wheel. This is referred to as a half-moon guard. Often these guards must be purchased separately from the tool, since Type 27 guards are typically the standard provided with purchase.

FAQ:

1.What is the difference between Type 41 and Type 27 cutting wheels?

The Type 27 Cut Off Wheel must be used with an appropriate guard and a depressed center back flange. The center hub protects the user from cutting too deeply. 

The hub also allows for avoiding reinforcement wear and for extra rigidity for additional safety. The Type 27 produces 20% less cuts than the Type 41 on average.

2.. Can I use a cutting disc with a drill?

It's technically possible but you will probably have trouble with the lack of RPMs on the drill and handling a big drill will be pretty tough to get a decent cut.

3. How to use cutting disc correctly ?

Don’t use arbor bushings other than those supplied by the wheel manufacturer.

Don’t alter or remove the machine’s wheel guard.

Don’t use wheels that have been dropped or otherwise damaged.

Don’t use abrupt or excessive pressure while cutting.

Don’t cut wood or other non-approved materials with an abrasive cut-off wheel.

Don’t use the side of a cut-off wheel.

Don’t allow the wheel to bend or twist while cutting.

Don’t set down the grinder with it leaning on the cut-off wheel.
